Isadora® Workshop
Berlin - March 3-5, 2008

Creating Interactive Artworks with Isadora
Studio 103 / Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany
March 3-5, 12:00 to 17:00 each day
Cost: €125 per person

The three-day workshop will focus on creating interactive performance, installation and VJ sets using Isadora, a real-time media manipulation tool that has become the software of choice for hundreds of artists worldwide. Taught by Mark Coniglio (creator of Isadora and Artistic Co-Director of multimedia performance group Troika Ranch), the participants will learn to use Isadora's flexible building blocks to present and manipulate video and sound in real-time. Coniglio will then build upon this knowledge by showing how external sensory systems can allow performers or viewers to interactively control the media with gestures or vocalizations.

All workshop participants will receive a three-month temporary license for the software so that they may continue their exploration after the workshop concludes.

Please note that this workshop is primarily designed for beginning users of Isadora! If you are already well-versed in the software, it may not be the right workshop for you because we will start with the basics. If you are an "expert" user and understand this, you are still welcome to take the workshop; we will try to address as many specific concerns of the participants as possible.

The workshop will be given in English. Cost for the three days is €120 per person. Payment must be given in cash on the first day of the workshop. No more than ten partcipants will be accepted.

If you are interested in partcipating, please contact Mark Coniglio at

Participants will ideally have some artistic background in creating media-intensive artworks. An understanding of how to capture video and/or audio using software like Final Cut Pro, iMovie,, Premiere, or Windows Movie Maker will benefit the participants as they integrate their own digital media into the process, though it is not required.

Computers: Students will either bring their own laptops, or computers will be provided to them. It is possible for two participants to share one computer if necessary. The computers must meet the following minimum requirements:

Macintosh G4/G5 or Intel based computer with a bus speed of 1.0 Ghz and 1.0 GB of RAM; Mac OS X 10.3.9 or greater; QuickTime 7.0 or greater must be installed.

Windows computer with a bus speed of 1.8 Ghz and 1.0 GB of RAM; Windows XP or NT or Windows Vista; QuickTime 7.0 or greater must be installed.

For desktop machines, a second video card is highly recommended so that users may view the Isadora user interface on their monitor whilst simultaneously displaying video on a video projector.

Video Camera: A video camera (DV, web cam, etc.) and a compatible external interface (if needed) is highly recommended. For those whose computers do not have an integrated internal microphone, an external microphone compatible with the microphone input of your computer is also recommended.

MIDI & Other Sensory Systems: Users may also bring MIDI input devices or other sensory systems if they have prior skill in connecting and using those systems with their computer..
